Stanley "Stan" Smith is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the animated television series American Dad! He is a staunch conservative and CIA agent, deeply patriotic and often paranoid about national security.
Stan is depicted as being overly masculine and obsessed with traditional American values. He is married to Francine Smith and they have two children: Hayley, a liberal college student who constantly clashes with Stan's beliefs, and Steve, a nerdy and socially awkward teenager.
His unconventional family also includes Roger, a sarcastic and flamboyant alien who lives in their attic, and Klaus, a German goldfish with the brain of an Olympic ski jumper.
